Seven Club América Players With National Teams For International Break

This weekend club futbol takes another break for international fixtures. Eight players from our squad were called to represent their countries for friendly matches and training camps (Renato Ibarra was called up but will not join the Ecuador squad after picking up a knock).

Edson Álvarez and Henry Martín – México

One of the youngest players on México’s squad, Edson Álvarez keeps collecting caps and minutes with El Tri. Álvarez represented México in the 2018 World Cup and heads into this international break with 21 caps in official matches and 1 goal scored. For our club, he’s racked up 84 appearances and 2 goals.

Henry Martín returns to El Tri under Ricardo Ferretti’s interim reign, marking his third call up to the national team and looking for his first cap. With Club América, Martín has 35 appearances and 12 goals to his name. México have two friendly matches set for this break:

Mateus Uribe – Colombia

Uribe earns another call up to the Colombian National Team after he was with the club for the 2018 World Cup and in the most recent international break. He has 5 caps with Los Cafetaleros. With Club América, he has 46 appearances and has scored 16 goals.

Cecilio Domínguez and Bruno Valdez – Paraguay

As former Mexican National Team manager Juan Carlos Osorio takes over the Paraguay squad, Ceci and Bruno have been called up for his first training camp in charge of La Albirroja. Cecilio has 6 caps with Paraguay, and has made 62 appearances for Club América with 19 goals scored. Bruno joined Paraguay for both the 2015 Copa América (in Chile) and for the recent World Cup Qualification rounds where he scored his first international goal. For Club América, he has 100 appearances and 13 goals.

Carlos Vargas and Oswaldo León – México Sub 20

Vargas and León were called up once again to join the México Sub 20 squad for a training camp at the CAR (the Mexican National Team’s training grounds). The Sub 20 squad will soon select 20 players to travel to the United States to play in the 2018 CONCACAF Sub 20 Championship from November 1st to November 21st. That squad will be selected on October 27th.

Carlos Vargas played 5 matches at the 2018 Toulon Tournament and 2 matches at the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games. He has 47 appearances with Club América. Oswaldo León keeps advancing through the levels of the youth national team. He debuted with our First Team this tournament and has 4 appearances with Club América.
