Match Review: América 2-0 Puebla

28 de octubre, 2019

Saturday night, in a duel corresponding to Matchday 15 of Apertura 2019, America played Puebla at Estadio Azteca. A productive second half helped las Águilas overcome la Franja’s team to move into 5th place in the table.
It was quite a slow start from both teams, with a few early set pieces which were dealt with efficiency by both defenses. After 8 minutes, Bruno Valdez, with a header, gave the first warning for the Americanista squad:

In the 16th minute, our young midfielder, Jesús López, delivered the ball into the box with a good cross, finding Henry Martín who failed to control:

After 45 intense minutes and with few opportunities in both boxes, the teams went to halftime tied and goalless.
Starting the second half, Miguel Herrera decided to introduce Andrés Ibargüen instead of his fellow countryman, Nicolás Benedetti. With Ibargüen in, the americanista attack began to create more danger in the Puebla’s area.
At 61 ‘, Piojo ordered the substitution that would end up modifying the game: after his serious injury, the Chilean international striker, Nicolás Castillo, would appear again.
Only 2 minutes later, at 64’, Castillo broke the deadlock after a great individual play by Henry Martin:

The Azulcremas did not stay with their hands crossed and sought to seal the victory, which was achieved thanks to Andres Ibargüen, at minute 81, who took advantage that Vikonis, Puebla’s goalie, released the ball just to push it into the goal:

América asserted their role as favorites and defeated a Puebla team that continues to sink in the general table. The scores had to come from the bench and with this result, America adds 25 points and is in the first places of the classification
